Tai Chi and Stress Reduction

Hello this is John Hine,
This will be the start of regular blog posts that will help you get the most from your Tai Chi and help you build strong healthy bodies and calm relaxed minds.
One of the most significant applications of Tai Chi and Chi Kung is the ability to reduce stress considerably, within a short space of time.  Stress will probably be one of the 21st century problems that will have to be overcome.  It was bad enough in the 20th century, but now since the credit crunch and recession it is far worse.  It does not help that certain TV companies tend to dwell on the negative side of life far too much and make the genuine concerns seem even worse.  However, Tai Chi does offer a brilliant antidote to such negativity.  I think it was William Shakespeare who said that “nothing is either good or bad, it is only thinking that makes it so” or something similar.  By practising Tai Chi correctly every day, you can lift your spirits and calm your mind.
Sometimes we can get so caught up in our own thoughts and tie ourselves in knots mentally, leading to stress and ill health.  So, how does Tai Chi calm us down and open us up to new positive possibilities?  Inside each one of us is a well spring of calmness, confidence and certainty, but through the grind and hubbub of life we forget just how powerful and resourceful we really are.  While you are performing Tai Chi your mind is centered only on the exercise allowing the mind to relax and be at ease.  On completion of the exercise the mind is quiet and calm.  The thoughts that were racing round your mind have now quieted themselves and you feel calm and relaxed.
Everyone needs time to relax and take a short time away from the worries of the world.  Tai Chi is a perfect way to take time out and put things into perspective.
