For older adults, freedom is fitness

I read an article recently (link below) with this title and it got me thinking.  When you are young you charge around without a care in the world, you recover for injuries quickly and don’t actually take your body into account when making every day decisions.  When you start to notice that you are aging, that all changes.  You don’t move so freely, you aren’t as agile, mobile or flexible.  You seem to have lots of body niggles e.g. a ‘dodgie’ knee or joints.  You may decide not to go out with friends to certain places because the have too many stairs etc.

What really struck me, during my musings, is that we just accept it.  We really do just sit there and say ‘ok, I’ll take all this and just struggle through’, where did the fight go?  It doesn’t have to be this way and just because it seems to be happening to everyone else doesn’t mean its right.  Yes, your body will carry on changing, as it has done all your life but, you can have an impact on the speed and severity of it.  I think because the change happens so slowly it is easier to accept but, personally, I don’t like it and I am not going to sit here and surrender.  Me, off of to do some more Tai Chi!
